Natural remedies for dry hair

Dry hair has a tendency to look dull and it can be hard to manage after it has been washed. Using natural remedies can improve the appearance of dry hair and make it easier to style.

Janet Nicol one of the leading Edinburgh hairdressers and trained by L’Oreal says that the type of natural remedy that is used will depend on what type of hair you have.

One of the most effective natural remedies for dry hair is to add a teaspoon of lavender oil to some coconut oil and heat it up for a few seconds. Apply the solution to the scalp and massage it in. Leave the solution in overnight and shampoo it out the next morning. This should be carried out twice a week and will leave the hair feeling soft and looking shiny.

A natural conditioner for dry hair can be created using tablespoons of glycerine and castor oil and teaspoons of cider vinegar and protein. This mixture should then be added to a tablespoon of herbal shampoo before being applied to the scalp. It can then be left on the hair for twenty minutes before being rinsed off.

Natural remedies for oily hair

Natural remedies for oily hair work best when they are mixed in with your normal shampoo. Oily hair usually needs to be washed every two to three days.

The most effective natural remedies will absorb some of the oil so it does not make the hair look greasy. Two tablespoons of mint should be boiled in a glass and a half of water for about twenty minutes. When the mixture has boiled it will need to be strained and then mixed with the shampoo that you would normally use. This remedy is most effective if used every other day.

Puréed carrots are also very effective at absorbing the oil from the hair. The purée should be applied to the hair and left for fifteen minutes before being washed off with your normal shampoo. This is also a relatively cheap solution and is easy to prepare.

Natural remedies for normal hair

Normal hair does not need as much care as other hair types, but using a natural remedy can help revive the hair and keeps it looking at its best.

Washing the hair at least once a week with white vinegar is a good way to care for normal hair. This is also one of the simplest home remedies to use as it does not require making up a solution; the vinegar can be applied directly to the hair and then rinsed off. The hair should then be shampooed as normal to get rid of the smell of the vinegar.

Just as you would use a specific type of shampoo and conditioner to deal with your hair type, the same principle should be applied to natural remedies for the hair. However, using the wrong type of remedy for your hair type may not give you the results that you want. Therefore, you may also need to experiment with the different types of remedies that are available for your hair type in order to find out which one is best suited to your hair.
